The importance of tipping, just for anon who wrote in that “tipping isn’t mandatory because the government will make up the difference if they don’t make minimum wage in tips.”

Guess what? That’s what should happen IN THEORY, but to quote Homer Simpson, “In theory, communism works. In theory.” Waitstaff get taxed on the assumption they made at least minimum wage in tips, even if they didn’t. So when you don’t tip, it’s like you’re thieving from someone’s paycheck for the privilege of them bringing you food.

And if you don’t want to tip, go to the drive-thru.

Before anyone points out that in other countries the customs are different, like the video, I’m talking about the U.S., where people work their asses off to make $2.13/hr in the hopes that you’re a decent goddamn person who will drop some bills on the table when you’re through and make up the difference.

I’m a server, and this message is important. Please tip your server. I can’t tell you enough how hard it is to pay bills on 50 cent tips or nothing.
